At the risk of stating the obvious, there is a difference between an object and an image of the object. We don't often verbally make the distinction since we understand it, but think about a child learning her first language...
Objects and Views are different. The same object, viewed from different positions will appear different.
Light affects the way an object appears. Our perception of the color of an object is effected by the wavelength of light that the object reflects. This depends both on the type of light striking the object and on the material properties of the object.
