We can also compute the field of view for the synthetic camera with a projection plane. It will depend both on the size of the projection plane in the x and y directions and on the distance d between the projection plane and the center of projection.
A good demonstration of this camera system can easily be made with a clear piece of plastic or Plexiglas large enough to hold at arm's length and have a 20 degree or more field of view. Have someone hold the piece of plastic or Plexiglas and have someone else look through it and trace the scene they see on the plastic. Use a dry-erase or overhead projector marker for the tracing. Notice how perspective is automatically accounted for.
